I don’t know about you, but we have been watching a LOT of the Olympic volleyball since competition started on the weekend.

Well, pretty much everybody everywhere knows the Olympics started today in Beijing. And although there are no Canadians in the competition, Olympic volleyball is also starting.

Team Canada’s men and women finished out their series of exhibition matches last night, splitting with their visitors with a loss for the women and a win for the men.

Team Canada. Australia. Japan. Three of my favourite things, and all in one place. And where was I? Not in Winnipeg, that’s for sure. Damn.
But for those fans who WERE in the ‘Peg last night, it was a good night, as Team Canada’s men and women earned exhibition wins in front of the hometown fans.

Canada battled back from 2 down to defeat Mexico 3-2 (18-25, 21-25, 34-32, 25-21, 15-12) in a marathon of a match to earn a 5th-place finish at the NORCECA Championships yesterday in Saltillo, Mexico.

The Canadian junior women’s team got back on track at the NORCECA Championships in Saltillo, Mexico yesterday, beating Trinidad and Tobago 3-straight (25-16, 25-13, 25-11) in just under an hour to set up a match with Mexico for 5th place today.

Team Canada’s hopes for a medal and a spot at the 2009 Worlds ended last night as the junior women were swept (25-22, 25-19, 25-7 — ouch!) in fairly authoritative fashion by Puerto Rico at the NORCECA Championships in Saltillo, Mexico.

Team Canada’s junior women faced off against the US in the last match of pool play yesterday, and the US emerged with a 3-1 (25-22, 25-13, 18-25, 25-21) win at the NORCECA Championships in Mexico.

Team Canada’s junior women took the first game from the Dominican Republic, but that’s as far as it went, as the Domincan won 3-1 (27-29, 25-16, 25-15, 25-17) yesterday in pool play at the NORCECA Championships in Mexico.
